Lou, I’m always amazed at your adventures and how you reflect on them. I don’t think we ever have enough “time” at our retreats to have the in depth conversations where you clearly show your soul. You really are careful what you share unless we ask. You are always humble yet genuine and always find some humor when we are together. I’m so incredibly proud to have you as a friend. I love your sharing and feel like I’ve been blessed that you share your heart with us here in your writings. I did not know about this journey until now! 2019- then Covid - then we didn’t get together for several years. So in awe of you, my friend. I love that you LOVE an adventure and a challenge. Keep writing and sharing!!❤️
I always get excited when I see "Breadcrumbs: Essays and Poetry by Lou Dunham in my inbox! I know I will never be disappointed and will always be touched, moved or given something to ponder with your writing. Today was no exception, Lou. I have always dreamed of walking the Camino. A close friend of ours just did a huge part of it this past fall. Another dream is the Pacific Crest Trail--have you done any parts of that one at all? I love, love, love the poetry and reflections on your experience walking the Camino. Thank you for sharing it for all of us to enjoy and ponder. What an experience for you and your friends. I hope to follow in your "footsteps" someday!
Thanks, Carly. It was a wonderful experience. I don’t think I’m fit enough for the PCT. ;). The Camino is doable at any age with a little training. I hope you make it!
Lou! I did the Camino Frances (all grueling 480 miles of it) in 2016! This post made me very happy. I went solo, but like you, used a group that ferried the luggage--and I met two AMAZING men who became good friends. Love seeing that we have this is common. 💙

Thanks Glenna — your positive energy keeps me going.

I'm still a little in awe of this, and of your strength and determination. This is a beautiful recollection!
Thank you for your kind words!

Wow! You are a star. We just did a section. It was a great experience.
A section-or the entire thing-either way, it’s a great adventure requiring some grit!
And one more comment: I can especially imagine how wonderful a cold gin and tonic would be at the end of each day!!!
